What do Vedas say about Astrology? Why do planets influence our lives?

The Vedas, which are among the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, contain references to astrology, although they don’t provide an extensive treatise on the subject as seen in later texts like the Puranas or Jyotisha (astrological) texts. However, they do acknowledge the influence of celestial bodies on human life.

In the Vedas, particularly in the Atharva Veda, there are hymns dedicated to various celestial bodies such as the Sun, Moon, and stars. These hymns often express reverence for these celestial entities and acknowledge their power and influence.

Astrology, as understood in the Vedic context, is referred to as Jyotisha. Jyotisha means “light” or “astral light,” and it encompasses the study of celestial bodies and their influence on earthly events, including human lives.

The belief in astrology in Hindu culture is deeply rooted in the concept of karma, which suggests that our actions in past lives influence our present circumstances, and the positions of celestial bodies at the time of our birth are indicative of these karmic patterns. Astrology is seen as a tool to understand these karmic influences and navigate life accordingly.

The planets are believed to influence human life due to their energetic vibrations and gravitational pull. According to Vedic astrology, each planet represents certain energies and qualities, and their positions in the zodiac at the time of birth can affect various aspects of an individual’s life, including personality, relationships, career, and health.

In summary, while the Vedas don’t extensively elaborate on astrology, they acknowledge the influence of celestial bodies on human life. Astrology, as interpreted in Hindu culture, is seen as a means to understand the karmic influences of past actions and navigate life in accordance with cosmic energies.
